About The Honors Program

“In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.”
-- Bill Cosby

The Bryant University Honors Program is a community of talented students and dedicated faculty committed to pursuing an enriched educational experience. The mission of the Program is to offer its members a personalized, unique experience to enrich their academic, social, cultural and professional talents in a mentor-oriented environment.

The Students

Students invited for membership into The Honors Program have distinguished themselves as exceptional members of their high school community through academics, extracurricular activities, athletics and community service. These students are eager and willing to accept a non-traditional, expanded approach to the delivery of coursework by faculty who are passionate about teaching these talented students. The Program will foster an environment that tailors the educational and co-curricular experiences to develop the talents of our best students.

The Coursework

Courses in The Honors Program offer challenges to students who are motivated to be exposed to new ideas through expanded classroom discussions as well as non-traditional assignments and projects which apply theoretical concepts. The classes in The Honors Program are purposely kept smaller so that students may develop relationships with some of the University's best professors as well as other students like themselves. One of the courses, the Senior Capstone Project, consists of a project defined by the member as the terminal requirement of the Honors Program. The project's deliverable should reflect the members’s interest in a specific subject or topic. The Program encourages the member to leverage the project’s deliverable to assist with a future career path or industry preference. We believe that the project will become an important experience for the graduating senior ready to compete in any business organization.

However, the focus of the coursework is not to "make the courses harder", but to cultivate an environment that integrates challenge with a purpose.

The Result

Instead of looking at the Honors Program as more work, students should view it as a different experience that can define them as a person. For example, the Senior Capstone Project can provide members with discussion points during an interview on the objective and depth of their project to illustrate their ability to succeed. Therefore, The Honors Program, our sole focus to better prepare our students for a successful career or an advanced education.
